His goal most days lately is to see how many times he can make it across the floor to gnaw on my laptop cord. I don't condone the gnawing, mind you, but I am not above taunting him with it to get him to try crawling. He's getting pretty good at maneuvering, with short breaks to lick whatever is under him.

Taking Charge of Dinner
Miles was tired of waiting for his next bite, so he decided to take charge.

Miles spent some time on Monday staring out the window at utility workers repairing overhead wires. And by time, I mean hours off and on all day long with breaks only for eating and napping. He was fascinated by their orange vests and hats as they were lifted up and down in buckets. We're considering giving the high chair a permanent place in the living room with all the entertainment it gives him watching cars, and people, and especially fire trucks. I also considering a call to the city to request that they do repairs at least once a week, since I was able to get a ton of work done that afternoon! Sitting at the window is a poor substitute for actually going out for a walk, but some days it's just too cold and rainy.
We did take small breaks from window gazing to have a little fun. The afternoon of people watching put him in an insanely good mood (that wasn't even dampened by the dreaded avocados).

Avocado? You are NOT My Friend
I know, I know. Enough with the food videos already. Last one for a while, I promise.

Hello Bananas!
Bananas were an instant hit. His uncle Eric will not be pleased.

Third Time's a Charm
Miles has had a bit of a cold this week. He hasn't acted very sick, just quick to squeal with his very very short fuse. Yesterday his nose was pretty runny, so I decided to skip the sweet potato snack in the afternoon. However, today I was running out of ideas to keep him from dying of boredom after having him observe me prepping dinner, emptying the dishes and doing a few loads of laundry. So, I pulled out a snack dish and decided to try this time with a spoon. Snack time today was accomplished with much enthusiasm.
Next stop? Avocado? Apple? Bananas?

Sweet Potatoes
Last night we gave Miles his first taste of solid food. After doing a lot of reading on the subject, I decided to start him out with roasted sweet potato blended with a bit of breast milk. He made a few sour faces, but swallowed the tastes and kept opening his mouth for more. I have to say, I feel that our first try was a success.

Vroom Vroom
Miles winds up to crawl. I'm thinking just a few more days until he launches.

Oh Crap
I think the photo and title speak for themselves.
Of course, he didn't pull himself up, but is holding his own while enjoying yet another new view of the couch.
Hairstyle? Courtesy of his father who was "just keeping him warm" in front of the heater after his bath last night. It effectively blow dries his hair into the Phil Spector-esqe bouffant that you see today. Jesse was very proud of his do. Miles was so proud of his standing accomplishments that he was willing to overlook the unattractive coiffe.

Four Months
I'm a few days late posting about Miles' four month birthday. The chaos of the holidays left me little time to blog. Miles went in for his four month checkup today, so here are the stats:
Weight: 15lbs 6.5oz (56th %)
Height: 24.5" (28th %)*
Head: 16.5" (35th %)
Sleep: Not much
As you can see, Miles has stayed about average in his weight, but is falling behind in growth for height. I swear his torso keeps growing at lightning speed, so he roughly has the proportions of a wiener dog. I'm sure his eyes will permanently roll in the back of his head someday when he finds out I compared him to a stumpy canine. What? The numbers don't lie.
He may be short, but he's strong as an ox (or a nine-month-old). The pediatrician was once again stunned by his feats of strength -- he now pushes himself up so far on his arms that they completely straighten and he flings his body forward in attempt to crawl. In another daring feat, today he stood unassisted by me while just holding on to some of his dangling toys. Both Jesse and I were pretty stunned.

Jumping Bean
Miles is the new owner of a piece of baby equipment that I swore I'd never have in my home -- the exersaucer. It was free, so I don't have any qualms about getting rid of it when he decides it sucks in two weeks. Until then though, it's pretty fun to watch him play.
